The Eastern Shore Area Health Education Center (ESAHEC) is a private non-profit organization serving the 400,000 residents in nine counties comprising Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Operational since 1997, the ESAHEC is dedicated to improving the supply and distribution of the area’s primary health care providers. Despite the fact that all nine counties are totally or partially recognized as a Federal Health Professional Shortage Area, with significant demand for and shortages of health care workers, the existing workforce enjoys the benefits of strong community support.

The ESAHEC provides a full range of AHEC activities and resources, including:

  • Continuing education;

  • Clinical education;

  • A Learning Resource Center; and

  • Health careers promotion.

The Center has increased programs and services every year since its incorporation and an expanding geriatric service program has been initiated. ESAHEC enjoys a positive and strong relationship with the Region’s business, health, and governmental communities.
